She Rises: From a Silenced Little Girl to a Woman Who Lights Others Up

The Story of Gabby Wong

When I was a little girl, I experienced a moment that changed me forever a frightening encounter that no child should ever face.

I tried to tell the adults around me, desperate for someone to hear me, believe me, protect me.

But my words were brushed aside.

In that era, children’s voices carried little weight,
and girls’ fears were often dismissed as imagination.
That was the first time I learned what it felt like to be unheard—
and that silence hurt more than the fear itself.

For years, I grew up shrinking myself,
afraid to trouble others, afraid to speak too loudly,
afraid that my feelings didn’t matter.
But hidden inside that quiet little girl was a seed—
a promise to myself:
“If one day I grow strong enough, I will become the adult who listens… the adult who believes.”

As I stepped into the world of women empowerment, youth development and community building, my heart began to heal.
I saw children who didn’t dare to speak.
I saw teenagers searching for their identity.
I saw women who carried unspoken pain behind their strength.

And I knew—
I was meant to do more than witness their struggles.
I was meant to build safe spaces where they could rise.

So I began leading youth camps, empowering mothers and girls,
mentoring women through growth programs,
and shaping communities where people feel seen, supported, and valued.

I chose to be the voice that says,
“You matter. Your story matters. Your voice deserves to be heard.”

Becoming a mother strengthened this mission even more.
I teach my children to speak up, to set boundaries,
to trust their feelings,
and to know they will always be believed at home.

Today, I am no longer that silent little girl.
I am a leader, a mentor, a community builder—
and most importantly, a light for those who are still finding theirs.

I believe this with all my heart:
When a child is heard, a woman is empowered;
when a woman rises, a community transforms.

If that little girl in me were reading this today,
I would hold her gently and say:
“You were never invisible.
You will grow into a strong, beautiful woman.
And your story will become someone else’s courage.”

My hope is simple—
to pass this light forward,
to help others break their silence,
and to remind every girl, every mother,

every young soul:
You have the right to speak.
You have the power to rise.
And you deserve to shine.
