Hello, I’m Brenda Lam.
After 25 years in banking, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life—to step away from corporate security and become an entrepreneur.
Two years ago, my partners and I were granted a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Financing Platform licence by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC). Our mission is clear: to help Malaysian SMEs access vital financing while providing investors with alternative investment opportunities offering potential returns of up to 18% flat per annum.
Obtaining the licence was like building a bank from scratch. We spent nearly a year developing credit policies, compliance frameworks, and risk management systems. We then invested millions of ringgit to build the tech platform, assemble expert teams, and sustain operations for almost two years before generating meaningful revenue. Raising initial capital was another uphill battle—travelling endlessly across Malaysia, meeting investor after investor for nine months before securing our first funding.
It felt like carrying a child for two years, finally giving birth, and pouring our hearts into nurturing that child every single day.
What kept me going was the belief that we were building something that truly matters. Many capable SMEs struggle to fit strict traditional banking criteria. We wanted to be a trusted bridge—supporting deserving businesses while safeguarding investors’ interests. As a founder who also invests in the platform, I understand the value of every ringgit entrusted to us. To me, trust in finance is earned through consistent action, discipline, transparency and integrity.
As a woman balancing career, family, and personal aspirations, I know success comes with sacrifices. My advice to other women: learn to pace yourself. Pursue your ambitions wholeheartedly, but never neglect your health or loved ones. Success is not a sprint; it’s about having the resilience for the long journey.
