When I Stopped Proving Myself, I Finally Found Myself
Hello, I’m Winnie Phon.
Growing up in a traditional family, I learned from an early age to prove my worth through hard work, academic achievements, and performance. At the age of fifteen, I left home to pursue my education on my own. Later, due to family commitments, I had to return home to continue my studies. When my university application was unsuccessful, I worked as a temporary teacher while waiting for another opportunity. Eventually, I was accepted into university. These experiences taught me that difficulties do not define our lives—our perseverance does.
After graduation, I began my career in the corporate sector and later transitioned into banking. Although I had no background in finance, I was never afraid to learn, challenge myself, and step outside my comfort zone. Through continuous learning and determination, I gradually developed my professional expertise and built a stable and successful career that many would consider enviable.
However, in my constant pursuit of goals, I slowly lost sight of myself.
For years, I was caught up in a busy lifestyle, always placing responsibilities first and my health last. It was not until I was hospitalized during the MCO that I finally stopped and took a serious look at my life. My body’s warning forced me to ask myself, “Is this really the life I want?”
A course on “Learning to Love Yourself” became a turning point for me. It reminded me that we often spend so much time taking care of everyone else that we forget who we are and what we truly need.
At that moment, I began to redefine success. I realized that true success is not measured solely by career achievements, but also by good health, balance, and the courage to live a life that is aligned with our inner values.
With this newfound perspective, I stepped out of my comfort zone and entered the field of health management. Today, I hope to help more people build healthier, more confident, and more sustainable lifestyles, because I believe that health is not the destination—it is the foundation that enables us to pursue and achieve our dreams.
Looking ahead, I hope to promote health education and the principles of preventive healthcare, so that more people understand that health is a lifestyle we can practise every day, rather than something we only address after illness occurs.
More importantly, I hope to empower women to rediscover their worth. I believe that when a woman learns to love and value herself, she not only transforms her own life, but also creates a positive impact on her family, career, and the people around her.
Today, I no longer strive to prove my worth. Instead, I aspire to become someone who empowers others.
I believe true leadership begins with transforming ourselves before inspiring others to change. And true success is not about how much we possess, but about how many people we can help to live healthier, more confident, and more meaningful lives.
