After Meeting the Right People, I Chose to Become One
Hello everyone, I’m Amanda Au.
I was born into an ordinary family, and I have always believed that opportunities are not something we wait for—they come when we commit ourselves wholeheartedly to doing our best in every stage of life.
For over thirty years, I built my career in the insurance industry before expanding into property investment. Fifteen years ago, through a client’s introduction, I purchased a piece of land in Sungai Lembing, Kuantan. It was originally meant to be a peaceful place for my retirement. At that time, there was nothing more than a small, rundown hut standing on an empty piece of land. With determination and perseverance, I learned everything from scratch—asking questions, studying the processes, and handling every approval and procedure myself.
There are no shortcuts in business. Once I made the decision to begin, I committed myself to seeing it through. Along the way, I was incredibly blessed to meet many mentors and benefactors who generously guided me and introduced customers to my business. Through trust and word of mouth, that humble property gradually grew into a retreat and activity destination that now accommodates more than forty guests.
For many years, I balanced both my insurance career and the resort business. Through every challenge, I held firmly to one belief: Life will always bring pressure, but we should never allow pressure to imprison us. When we face mountains, we find a way over them; when we meet rivers, we build bridges across them.
Today, at sixty years old, I have stepped back from the front line of my insurance career. As I considered the future of the resort, I once thought about selling it because of the long distance from home and the lack of family members able to continue managing it. But looking back, I realize how far I have come. None of this would have been possible without the trust, encouragement, and support of the clients, friends, and mentors who believed in me. Had someone not reached out to help me years ago, I might never have become the person I am today.
That realization led me to a new decision. Instead of selling the resort, I want it to become an opportunity for someone else. Many women possess remarkable potential—they simply need someone willing to teach them, guide them, and provide them with the right opportunities. I hope to pass on not only my experience but also this well-established business to a woman who is responsible, driven, and eager to grow, empowering her to build a successful future of her own.
In the first half of my life, I was someone who received opportunities. In the second half, I hope to become someone who creates opportunities for others.
The greatest blessing in life is to meet people who believe in you. The greater purpose of life is, when you are able, to become that person for someone else.
