Starting Over: Learning to Live My Life Again
My name is Sasa Liew Shook Chean
If I were to describe my life in one sentence, it would be this:
“I have fallen many times, but I have never been willing to give up.”
As the eldest daughter in my family, I learned from a young age that many things in life would not simply be handed to me—I had to earn them myself. I was outgoing, cheerful, and often the center of attention. More importantly, I always believed that with enough determination and hard work, I could create the life I wanted.
Before I even completed Form 6, I took over my late aunt’s fashion design business after she passed away from cancer. Starting from scratch, I immersed myself in learning, experimenting, and building the business. Eventually, I established my own brand and believed that my future would continue on a smooth and successful path.
But life often tests us when we are least expecting it.
Later, I left the fashion industry and transitioned into the beauty and medical aesthetics field, dedicating 19 years of my life to it. Just as my career was becoming stable, my world began to collapse. My marriage ended, I lost custody of my children, my career fell apart, and I sank into severe depression.
During that period, I felt as though I had lost my soul. Every morning, I woke up without purpose, unsure of why I should continue. I lost all confidence in myself.
The greatest pain was not what I had lost—it was that I had begun to lose faith in myself.
Thankfully, during the darkest chapter of my life, I met a dear friend who never gave up on me. When I was at my lowest, she supported me emotionally and financially, helping me regain the courage to believe that life could begin again.
As market conditions changed and the pandemic disrupted industries worldwide, I found myself changing careers repeatedly. I worked in beauty, medical aesthetics, insurance, and even sold food through livestreams, made homemade hamburger patties, and distributed frozen dim sum just to make ends meet.
There was a period when I changed jobs so often that even my parents did not know how to introduce me to others. I could sense their embarrassment, and it hurt deeply.
Yet I never gave up.
When I joined Nirvana, I let go of my pride and all the titles I once held. I woke up at 5 a.m. every day, distributing flyers at local markets before sunrise and prospecting for new clients in parking lots during the afternoons. While others saw hardship, I saw an opportunity to rebuild my life and prove to myself that I could rise again.
Throughout these years, I continued studying Tarot and Numerology, disciplines I had been passionate about for decades. Eventually, I discovered my true calling.
I once guided a single mother who was struggling after a divorce. By helping her recognize her natural talents, build a source of income, and improve her relationship with her child, I witnessed her transformation from self-doubt to self-confidence. That experience helped me realize something important:
My purpose has never been about selling products—it is about helping people rediscover direction, hope, and their own potential.
After experiencing countless setbacks and fresh starts, I have learned that a woman’s greatest strength does not come from having someone to rely on. It comes from knowing that no matter how hard she falls, she has the power to rise again.
Today, I have chosen to become a Life Strategy Mentor, dedicated to impacting lives through life itself. I believe that the darkness you are experiencing today may one day become the light that guides someone else.
And I hope to be that light—to walk alongside those who are struggling, helping them rediscover their worth, reclaim their confidence, and find hope for a brighter future.
