A Quiet Rebirth: Choosing to Rise
I was born into a family without any strong backing. My father passed away in an accident when I was just one year old, leaving my mother widowed and pregnant with my younger brother. My mother remarried when I was 5 years old. And I have another two more siblings. My stepfather was a fisherman—his income dictated by the tides and weather. When the sea was too rough, we have to relied on selling homemade fried sweet potato and banana. My parents would fry and we have to sell it from door to door. Life was tough and harsh—but it was filled with joyful and sweet.
After graduating from secondary school, I studied in accounting, only to realize that a life spent crunching numbers day after day wasn’t what I truly desired. By a twist of fate, I entered the insurance industry and went on to further my studies in wills, trusts, and investments — all in pursuit of offering more holistic planning for my clients. Though I started off as an introvert, I gradually carved out my own path, eventually owning my first home and saving up some assets. I may not be the industry’s top achiever, but I’ve always believed that every one who keeps striving is a champion.
However, the path of love was fraught with thorns. In 2025, I ended a 15-year marriage. Over the years, I had given in and tolerated again and again, What I received in return was repeated betrayal and the depletion of my assets. Even the truth was twisted and falsehoods prevailed. Yet, I chose to let go and remain grateful for the journey.
I chose a new begin at my age of 51 with my daughter by my side. Divorce is not a failure — it is an awakening. I believe every woman must have the ability to stand on her own. Financial independence is not just empowerment—it is a woman’s quiet strength. The ability to leave when she must, with grace and dignity.
Not long ago, a tragic news story broke my heart: a 41-year-old mother ended her life, taking her three-years-old daughter with her. What she lacked was not strength—but a safe space, a voice of empathy, and a glimmer of hope. We only leave once, may we not just endure, but rise.
To any woman walking through darkness: You are not alone. You deserve love, peace, and purpose. No matter how heavy the days may seem—be your own light.
