《May Everyone Who Once Lacked Love Grow Up To Become Someone Else’s Warmth》
I am Vissy Yap.
I grew up in a very poor family. From a young age, I lived with my grandmother and was cared for by my uncle and aunt. To me, “home” felt more like a hotel — simply a place to return to and sleep.
I rarely communicated with my parents, and I seldom experienced genuine companionship or affection.
Perhaps because of that childhood, I learned independence very early.
Later, I wanted to study beauty, but my parents did not support my decision. They believed the beauty industry had no future.
But deep inside, I knew this was the path I truly wanted to pursue. Even without their understanding, I chose to continue.
After entering the beauty industry, I worked extremely hard. I believed that if I gave my best, life would eventually get better.
But after three years of effort without the results I had hoped for, I began to feel exhausted with working for others. For the first time, the idea of starting my own business appeared.
The biggest obstacle was simple: I had no capital.
Fortunately, my boyfriend at the time — now my husband — gave me tremendous support. With financial assistance from his family, I received the start-up capital I needed and successfully opened my first shop.
In 2011, I officially became an entrepreneur and also began representing La’Derm.
I continued learning and improving. In 2018, I expanded my services to include hair removal, photorejuvenation, breast care and other beauty treatments.
Then came one of the greatest challenges of my career: the pandemic.
During MCO, my shop could not operate and my income suddenly stopped. The pressure of having everything come to a standstill made me extremely anxious.
Because I had experienced poverty as a child, the feeling of having no money was especially frightening to me.
But I knew fear would not solve the problem.
So I began creating videos and doing livestreams.
At first, I did not know how to do any of it. But step by step, I became more familiar with the process. Along the way, I discovered new interests, reached new groups of customers, and even began receiving referrals from existing clients.
What I am most grateful for is that during one of the most difficult periods of MCO, I achieved the fourth-highest national sales performance for La’Derm in 2021.
Today, I am not only an entrepreneur, but also a mother of three.
Because of my experiences with my own family, I now understand more deeply how important it is to love and accompany my children.
I have learned the lesson of “forgiveness.”
I want to give my children more companionship, more love, and the ability to truly experience and understand the world around them.
My journey has also changed the way I understand beauty.
I believe beauty is not only about appearance.
Through sincere service, professional care and genuine companionship, beauty can help someone rediscover confidence, dignity and strength.
Perhaps this is what my journey has ultimately taught me:
Even if we once grew up without enough love, we can still choose to become a source of warmth for someone else.
I am Vissy Yap.
And I hope every person who once lacked love can grow up to become the warmth in another person’s life.
