Hello everyone, I’m JC.

There was a time in my life when I walked through overwhelming darkness. I reached a point where I had lost all hope and even contemplated ending my life. Having survived that painful chapter, I came to understand a profound truth: when someone is struggling, they do not simply need to hear, “Be strong.” What they truly need is someone willing to listen, to understand, and to gently reach out a helping hand when they feel they can no longer carry on.

I remain deeply grateful to the people who once lifted me from my lowest point. Their kindness changed my life, and I promised myself that when I had the ability, I would become that helping hand for someone else.

More than four years ago, I took over the elderly care home founded by my partner. I have always enjoyed being around senior citizens, but only after taking on this responsibility did I realize that caregiving is far more than providing food, shelter, and daily necessities. Every resident has different medical conditions, personalities, and emotional needs. I immersed myself in learning, seeking guidance from healthcare professionals and attending every course I could to improve my caregiving skills.

To reduce operating costs and devote more resources to our residents, I moved into the care home myself. I live alongside them every day, sharing meals, conversations, laughter, tears, and the reality of aging. Together, we face physical decline, illness, and the inevitability of life’s final chapter.

Living so closely with aging and mortality transformed my perspective on life. The disappointments, grievances, and hardships that once consumed me suddenly seemed insignificant in the face of life’s fragility. Caring for the elderly did not drain me—it strengthened me. Whenever challenges arise, I choose to face them. If I do not know something, I learn. If I stumble, I stand up and keep moving forward. I have come to believe that every storm eventually passes, and every scar carries a lesson that shapes us into stronger, wiser individuals.

Because I have experienced despair, I understand the pain of helplessness. Because I have been shown kindness, I now choose to become a light for others whenever I can.

Today, my greatest hope is not merely to care for the elderly, but to remind every person who is struggling that no matter how dark life may seem, there is always hope. There is always another chance to begin again.

The hardships we endure are never meant to defeat us. In time, they become the very strength that teaches us to cherish life—and gives us the courage to reach back and lift someone else out of the darkness.
